
The History of Finger Lakes Independence Center
Finger Lakes Independence Center (FLIC) was incorporated! They began operating as an independent living center in the Clinton West Plaza in Ithaca.
When FLIC opened its doors, its role was to offer services for:
- Community Information and Referral
- Independent Living Skills and Training
- Peer Counseling
- Individual and Systems Advocacy
FLIC moved to its current location at 215 5th St. in Ithaca.

FLIC continued to add services to meet the needs of the community, such as:
• Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP)
• Registry Program
• Student Transition Services
• Community Education and Outreach
• Medical Equipment and Ramp Loans
• Try It Room
• Benefit Advisement
• Employment Services with The American Dream Employment Network (ADEN)
• Coordinating services through the NYConnects System..
Each year FLIC helps approximately 3000 people in the community. FLIC hopes to continue to grow and help more people with more services and to continue to make the community a more welcoming and inclusive community.
